Iguanas are dropping from the trees

January 23, 2020 -

Over many years of walking in my neighborhood early each morning, I’ve learned to watch out for many things: cars, bikes, dog “souvenirs,” and the occasional skunk among them.

I’ve never thought to beware falling iguanas.

If I were living in Miami, however, that’s just what weather forecasters would be telling me to avoid.

As temperatures in the area dipped between thirty- and forty-degrees Fahrenheit this week, the cold weather stunned the lizards. They were then unable to grip the trees where they roost at night and began falling to the ground.

The good news is that, when the day heats up and the sun’s rays land on them, they recover quickly.

While we live on a dangerous planet, our greatest threat is not physical but spiritual.

First Peter 5:8 warns us, “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The next verse offers the solution: “Resist him, standing firm in your faith” (v. 9).

What roaring lion must you resist today?
